Bel and the Dragon consists of two stories which were added to the Greek translation of the book of Daniel. I have read this sentence in the Bible. Why "consists" has been used instead of "consist"? Here subject is plural.
Thank you.

'Bel and the Dragon' is a a tale in the Book of Daniel.

The characters of Bel and of the Dragon do not consist of two stories; it is their tale that consists of two stories.
