I was feeling a bit tired, so I went home early.

Is it possible to leave out 'comma' before 'so' in the above sentence?

I would leave the comma out. The meaning is clear without it.

I am like tzfujimino - when there are two independent clauses joined by a "FANBOYS" conjunction, I used the comma almost 100% of the time. However, the trend is growing to omit it when both the clauses are short, as they are here.

I wouldn't mark it incorrect if I were your teacher.
I would edit in the comma if I were your editor and the style choice was mine to make.
