Which one is correct?

1. He was so scared that he fainted.
2. He was so scared that caused him to faint.

Which one is correct? Is there a better way to say it?
Only #1 is correct. If you want to use "that caused him to faint", you would have to say "It was the sight of a ghost that caused him to faint".
