[Grammar] so vs very

Hello there.

I'm sorry you're so tired.
I'm sorry you're very tired.

Is there any difference?
 
Both mean the same.
While "so" is informal for "very", in these two sentences, I think the meaning is slightly different. I would interpret "so" to mean "the extent or degree indicated". In other words, the first statement could mean "I'm sorry that you are as tired as you are."
