[Grammar] Sorry to do something/ Sorry for doing something

Hi!
Is there any difference between the following examples?

1) Sorry to bother you.
2) Sorry for bothering you.

I think that the former means "I am sorry that I have to bother you " and refers to a present situation whereas the latter means "I am sorry for having bothered you"/ "I am sorry that I bothered you" and refers to a past event. However,I also read that 2) can refer to both a past and present situation.

Is my interpretation quite right?

You're right. 2 could be present, but for bothering that has just taken place, while the 1 is for bothering that is about to take place.
