This "noise" output is part of the total output as defined above, but for the purpose of simply identifying a system, spurious inputs producing undesirable outputs are not normally considered as inputs and outputs in the system description.

- The word "spurious" is closest in meaning to ..... in the passage.

1. internal
2. extra
3. external
4. different

Spurious: A spurious statement, argument etc is not based on facts or good thinking and is likely to be incorrect.( As you know, this definition has nothing to do with this test's options. Still, answer key went for No.2! It's a bit vague to me.)

I don't think any of the options is correct.
