What about these two sentences: do I need there before the verb or can I avoid it?

1] On the summit of the Mount Kildenny there stands the imposing bronze statue of ...
2] On the summit of the Mount Kildenny stands the imposing bronze statue of ...

THanks

Hopeful -

I like Emsr's corrections on #1, but I also think that your version would be fine, too, if you just omitted the first "the."

Emsr uses British English, and I use American English. Your version is natural American English but might not work as well for Brits.

Your two lines mean the same thing. Using the word "there" is a style choice. It gives the line an old-fashioned storytelling voice. If that's your goal, use it.

Where is Mount Kildenny, and who is the bronze statue a statue of?
