I imagine that she is thinking of steaming dog sh*t. A rather crude, and not particularly appropriate, image.

I suppose 'steaming dog' might be a regional version of the steamed pudding known in my world as 'spotted dick' - a very bland and stodgy pudding, alleviated by the raisins that give it its name: http://www.tesco.com/recipes/p/i/recipes/1183.jpg . 'Spotted dick' in also known is some regions as 'spotted dog'.

But I think 5jj's guess is more likely. It's not uncommon for people to make vulgar expressions sound less offensive by suppressing the offending word - as in 'I couldn't give a monkey's' (many of whose users have no idea what the noun originally was) :)
