Hi there,
I was wondering if stoically means to bear something patiently or indifferently? I mean whether it has a positive or negative meaning?
Thanks
The word 'stoically' itself is neither positive nor negative.
I use it for enduring something negative, such as pain. I wouldn't say, 'He stoically put up with the joy…' In the context of something pleasant I would prefer dispassionate/inscrutable/unemotional, and so on.
Interesting, I see stoicism as slightly positive, in the sense that a stoic attempts, and succeeds, in getting through things without bathing in the pain.
