Should we say

Strumming on the guitar
Strumming the guitar

1. There is a man strumming on guitar in the hallway.
2. There is a man strumming his guitar in the hallway.

Which one is grammatical and natural? Do both the sentences have the same meanings?

Say: strumming the guitar

1. There is a man strumming a guitar in the hallway.
2. There is a man strumming his guitar in the hallway.

They mean roughly the same. There is a man in the hallway playing a guitar.

The first one is more likely. The second is perfectly grammatical but unlikely. (It provides useless information. (By "useless information" I mean it doesn't tell the reader or listener anything he needs or wants to know.))

Should we I say "strumming on the guitar" or "strumming the guitar"?

1. There is a man strumming on guitar in the hallway.
2. There is a man strumming his guitar in the hallway.

Which one is grammatical and natural? Do both the sentences have mean the same? meanings?
Note my change to your opening above. Try not to split a question over multiple lines. It gets messy and, as you can see from your original post #1, you run the risk of not having anywhere to put the question mark.

1. There is a man strumming on guitar in the hallway.
2. There is a man strumming his guitar in the hallway.

The first one needs an article before 'guitar' to make it fully grammatical. With that correction, both of them would be equally acceptable and natural.

The only difference is that the second one specifies exactly whose guitar he's playing. We might assume it's his own guitar in the first sentence, but we can't know for certain.
