The first is probably more common.
 
5jj:The BNC has 53 citations without 'it' and 88 with 'it'. I am an 'it' man.

Sorry Bob. I edited your post when I meant to reply to it. That's the second time I have done that today. I am going to have to start putting milk on my shredded wheat rather than gin.

Maybe it's a BrE thing, but I'm an it man too and I don't have Shredded Wheat or gin for breakfast. :up:
