Supposing we didn't go on holiday next year? (Practical English Usage, Chinese edition, page 426)
Why did the author use a question mark in the above sentence?

IMO, the author made a mistake. It's not a question.

Again – what aspect of practical English usage is being examplified by this sentence?

Supposing we didn't go on holiday next year? (Practical English Usage, Chinese edition, section 426)
Supposing we didn't go on holiday next year? (Practical English Usage, 3rd edition, section 426)
Supposing we didn't go abroad next year? (Practical English Usage, 4th edition, section 46)
Each of the above three sentences uses a question mark.

The first two are identical.

IMO, they're all wrong.

The question mark is definitely intended. It's a special kind of question. Think of it like a What if? question.

It's listed in PEU under 'suppose, supposing and what if'
