There's a problem, though. All this activity had no effect on obesity at all. Obesity increased relentlessly, even as we sweated to the oldies.

We sweated to the Oldies as well as the Newies, as the demon took turns possessing the zombie corpses, trying each on for size.

No, I think it refers to doing aerobic dance to music of different genres, old or new.

Right. Oldies are old songs.

Newies are new things. In this context, it's new songs.
