Synonyms – nip, pop, zip, dart

Hello, I have questions about synonyms again.( But now these words are nip, pop, zip, dart, whizz) What determines the choice of using one of the words in a sentence? Why should I choose only one of them? Is there any rule? I also have a sentence with these words: "I nipped / poppedd / darted / zipped / whizzed at the post office to buy several stamps, and went out only to see how my bus disappeared into the distance."

Again, I won't address what seems to be homework, but no, there aren't any "rules" for which synonym to choose. It's just a question of nuances, and you pick the one that has the best fit for what you want to say. If there are several that work equally well, then sometimes you just pick the one you personally like the best. Faced with two equally viable options, I'll pick the one I like the sound of the best. Maybe you want one over the other for something like alliteration or whimsy.

Also, as with your other sentences, I hope the typos and errors are yours and not the original source.

Very true. But you could whiz over to the post office to buy stamps. That's something quite different.
