I am a little confused with the phrasal verb "To take after".
Alina takes after her grand sister. Is this sentence correct? I mean the tense. Would it be better if I used the simple past?

Hi,
You'd normally see that in the same form (simple present) as it refers to a general fact. Here it means that Alina resembles her sister in appearance/character, which is a way to describe somebody.
You might also hear, 'It's her sister she takes after!'.

"To take after" means to be similar in mannerisms, personality etc. To use the past tense would suggest that Alina is deceased and I don't understand what you refer to as a "grand sister" unless you are using "grand" as an adjective meaning lovely or special in some way.

I meant by "grand" "wonderful" and "impressive"

We would not normally use 'grand' in this way, unless her sister were a really imposing figure.
