Context would help but "take me on" can mean to be challenged. But never heard/read "take on me".

Thank you.

You can hear that in Aha's song : " Take me on".

In the chorus, he says : "take on me, ...take me on".

Does that help?

Thank you
W

Songs and poetry can juxtapose words in a way that we would not use otherwise. That appears to be what you have found.

Were talking away
I don’t know what
I’m to say Ill say it anyway
Today’s another day to find you
Shying away
Ill be coming for your love, OK? Take on me, take me on! (Give me a chance, take my challenge!)
Ill be gone
In a day or two so needless to say
I’m odds and ends
