See previous responses, but just another point. "Hope", suggests a degree of uncertainty, whereas "when" (in your post) would suggest a likelihood. I would prefer to use "if" in place of "when" in the sentence.

What's the context? If it's about the Olympics, that could explain the change in certainty billmcd (among others) dislikes. In that case it means 'I hope the HK contestant do[es] well tomorrow.'
