The difference between tint and tinge

Is there any differences between them? My dictionaty told they both mean same.

A tinge is a small amount of something, including color.
A tint is a small amount of color.

The icing had a blue tint. The icing had a tinge of blue.

You can't have a tint of regret, or feel a tint of envy.

Be aware that dictionaries don't normally say that two words mean the same. I think you might be misunderstanding how it works.
It might say: "tint vt. to dye, tinge, colour, as in hair". This does not mean that all these words mean the same. It means that by considering all the illustrative words, and any examples, you can get an idea of what 'tint' means.

Maybe your English-English dictionary works like that, but I used my English-Finnish dictionary and because of the limited number of pages and the difference between Finnish and English it couldn't tell me more specifically the meanings. My dictionary told that tint means 'sävy', but in Finnish you can describe your feelings using this word. It also told that tinge means 'vivahde' - so it made a difference but it didn't help, because we use these words in different situations.

OK, but if your dictionary told you that tint means 'sävy' and tinge means 'vivahde', I can't see how it's telling you that the two words mean the same unless 'sävy' means 'vivahde', which you're now saying it doesn't.
Anyhow, I trust your problem is solved now. (Is this dictionary any good to you?)
