[Grammar] The difference between.....

He has played the piano since the age of 7.
He has been playing the piano since the age of 7.

The first sentence doesn't imply he still plays the piano??
My point is "Can we use the first instead of the second?" under the situation that he still plays the piano.
If it is possible, please let me know what the differences in nuance are.

Actually I posted a similar question two days ago.
Someone(I dont' remember the name) answered my question quickly but I have a follow-up question so I did ask it in the original thread.
But I haven't got an answer for 2 days.
That was why I posted this thread again holding a similar question.
I admit I should have been more patient..hehe :-D

In both cases, I would interpret take it that he still plays the piano. I would use the second if there's a greater connection to present time- if, for instance, he's giving some concerts this week, or to emphasise how long he's been playing.
