Is the sentence "The film is starting soon" natural?

My friend Yan was talking with people at an English club last night. I went there to give him some new-year gifts, and he asked "Don't you want to sit for a while and talk with us?" and I said the above.

Is this version also natural?

The movie’s about to start, so I should head off.

I'd probably say 'my' movie instead of 'the', especially if I hadn't previously discussed the movie with Yan. If we had already discussed the movie, then I'd use 'the'.
