What is the meaning of “degree studies” in the following sentence:

Students who achieve an acceptable standard will progress to degree studies.

I understand it means "university/college studies", but I'm not 100% sure.

They will go on to study for a university degree, usually at Bachelor's level, e.g., BA, BSc, etc..
