I try to correct my sentences myself to make them easier to read for native speakers. I crossed out the parts that are wrong in my opinion. Does either "transport" or "transportation" work in my examples?

1. The most popular type of transport/ transportation in most countries and in all whole Georgia is cars.
As far as I know, "transport" is BrE but "transportation" is AmE.

2. Public transport /transportation (system) developed slowly/very badly.
I don't think slowly is correct if I want to say that the way it developed was bad. Took years and wasn't great at first.
3. I took a couple of buses for getting to get to work the year before/last year previous year .

4. For resting, for having a rest/to have a rest without any doubt, people ride bikes. They prefer to spend time riding it in a park rather than being at home.

5. Public transport/transportation (system) isn't safe here.

Sorry, do you mean "I had to take a couple of buses to get to work (either) the year before or the year before last?"
Why can't I say "the previous year?"

or

We need "the" because "system" is a singular countable noun.

If you mean 2023, say "last year".
If you mean 2022, say "two years ago" or "the year before last".

You can use "the year before" to refer to a year that preceded another specified year. For example:

In 2020, the tram line opened, which made it convenient to commute to college, but the year before, I had to walk.
Here, "the year before" means 2019.
