The present tense before the past tense?

Hi,

I am curious to know why does the past tense come after the present tense? I mean why teachers and books address the present tense firstly then go to the past tense?! Shouldn't the past tense be explained first then moving to the present and the future? Perhaps it seems a silly question, but I'd like to know the reason. "^^

It is just how I think about it logically (past+present+future).

Every teacher has to start somewhere. For me, it is logical to start with the present. That is where we live. Then one can move on with what happened before the present and what will happen after the present.

That, and the present tense is the simplest form. In English, we add an ending to form the past and we add helping words to form the future.
