a. The twins sleep in bunk beds. (Cambridge Dictionary)
b. The twins sleep in a bunk bed.

I saw sentence a in the Cambridge Dictionary. Doesn't the singular form of bunk bed mean the whole structure (with a top bunk and a bottom bunk)? I also saw a British had the same feeling as I. See it here. Which is correct between sentences a and b? Thanks!

Interesting question.

Technically, only a. is correct but I do believe that many people might use b., thinking of the bed as a singular thing, as you are.
