A few days ago someone started a thread about the word "banalize," and that thread got me thinking about another word that exists in other languages but doesn't seem to exist in English. That word is "thematize." It means to make something a subject of discussion or, in a wider sense, to address something.

Do you think "thematize" is a legitimate word? I've never heard it used by an English native speaker, but I like the way it sounds and find it quite practical.

Thanks!

Yes, it is a real English word and it can be used to mean more or less what you said, “To make something a subject of discussion.”

It also has a specialized meaning in linguistics and some other academic areas, so be careful when using it.
