There are Mom and Dad in the living room.

Q1. Is the sentence right?
Do Mom and dad have to be small cases?
Because the sentence pattern there be is talking about unspecified things.

Can(or Should) the sentence be rewritten like this:
There are mom and dad in the living room.

There are Mom and Dad in the living room.

Q1. Is the sentence right? Yes
Do Mom and dad have to be small cases? No
Because the sentence pattern there be is talking about unspecified things. If by 'is talking' you mean 'talks' or 'must talk', implying a rule, then you are wrong. 'There is President Obama' is fine.

Can(or Should) the sentence be rewritten like this:
There are mom and dad in the living room. No
It would be more normal to say, "Mom and Dad are in the living room", but there is no rule that you cannot use there+Be before a specific person or thing.

!!!!! NOT A TEACHER !!!!!

Dido,

As I understand it, the words "mom," "mommy," "mother" should

always be in the upper case when it is a substitute for a

person's name. (That also goes for "dad," "daddy," "father,"

and "pop.")

I love Mom./ I love Marion. (Of course, you would not

write: I love marion.)

But if you are using the word "mom" as a common noun,

then it's: My mom is the greatest.

Therefore:

Hi, Dad! (That is: Hi, George). I think that you are the best

dad in the world.

I love you, Mommy! You are the best mother in the world.

:):):) HAVE A NiCE DAY :):):)

P.S. This "rule" also applies to other relationships:

He said that Grandmother (that is, "Martha") is coming to visit us.

But: Our grandmother is 60 years old, but she looks 30.
