Could you tell me whether this is a mistake here? Maybe difficulties?

It's fine. It's the differences between life overseas and life in your home country.

Without seeing the essay, I have to assume that the writer did mean to say differences. I imagine the idea is about differences in culture.

He's saying some people encounter too many changes when they move overseas, and they have a hard time dealing with that.
