The supermarket is in a building. Why is "in there" incorrect?

If we are in a taxi., we can say 'It's too hot in here'.
 
I would say both are correct and common.
 
1. I went to Mary's home yesterday. It was very hot there because she hadn't bought new air-conditioners.
2. I went to Mary's home yesterday. It was very hot in there because she hadn't bought new air-conditioners.

I would say both could be used and understood. In this case, however, I would tend to use "in there" because the focus is on the temperature inside the house.
