The prelusive sentence: "This is the (chess) game I played yesterday."

Now, I would like to know what sounds better as a continuation: "What's your opinion on it?"
or "What's your opinion thereon?" ?

Are these 2 options equally frequent, are they both even possible, or is thereon a bit archaic?

Same with therein / in it etc.

TIA

I would say: "What is your opinion of it?" The "on it" option would be my second choice, but only if you held a gun to my head.

;-)

I'd only expect to see 'thereon' in a legal document.

Thank you both. So "What's your opinion on it" would be appropriate?

Given that post #2 says that we would have to hold a gun to Tarheel's head before he would use it, what do you think?

I thought that meant that he could hardly decide which one he would use (thereon or on it), so if someone put a gun to his head (meaning he is forced to make a decision), he would choose "on it".

I didn't understand that he wanted to say that he would never use it.

This link seems to confirm that "of it" is most usual, although it sounds odd to me:

I meant that I have never used either option that you offered, but as a native speaker of American English I can give you some possibilities:

What is your opinion of it?
What do you think about it?
What are your thoughts on the matter?
What's your opinion?
What do you think?

(I try to inject some humor into my posts. Sometimes it works better than others. ;-))

:)

In the U.S., we have what we call the KISS principle: Keep It Simple, Stupid!

So I'd say "What do you think?"

I've never heard anyone say thereon in my life. I was born in 1952.

And we don't say "What's your opinion on it?" We say "What's your opinion of it?"

Note that we do say "Do you have an opinion on that?" or "Can I have your opinion/thoughts on that?" I think it just comes down to usage because I would say "What's your opinion of that/it?" so, for me, the words used at the beginning of the sentence dictate what I would say later in the sentence.

Thanks everyone, now I have a definite opinion on "thereon" and think of it as out of date.

Everything correct? :-?
