This is a test problem asked by a young friend of mine.

"... They will understand that many things require a nearly huge amount of WORK. They can't just expect something to happen. They ________(watch, let, help, make) it happen.

My friend chose 'make' and he said that the given answer was 'let'. I would have chosen 'make' as the best answer. Which do you think is the best word for the sentence?(The source is unknown)

I think "make" fits the context better. To make something happen is to do something whereas to let it happen is to do nothing.
