Dear Teachers,

Is it correct to complete the following sentence with why?

Sales of chocolate in Britain have fallen for the first time in 50 years. According to researchers, this is largely ................ children prefer to spend their pocket money on mobile phones.

The book the exercise is from gives only one answer because.

No. You have the causality backwards. Children don't spend their money on phones because Britain's chocolate sales have fallen. Britain's chocolate sales have fallen because children are spending their money on phones.
