Is it correct to say "to step out of the house onto a street" or is it better to say "to come out of the house onto a street"? I just think that "to step out" means to leave some place for a short period of time, but I don't need an expression which has this precise meaning.

"Step out" can also be used literally to mean that you move your feet forward and step out of something. They stepped out of the airplane carefully.

If you come to someone's house and ask for Bob, they might say "Oh, he just stepped out, but should be back in a few minutes."
