It's me again. The expression to stomp out in this context means..................???????

The assumption that Hollywood will take all that quiet, moody atmosphere and stomp the life out of it with Godzilla-like clumsiness is understandable: when it comes to remakes, American studios don't have the best track record.

Stamp up and down on it until it is lifeless.

The writer thinks that American studios are known treat delicate moods so clumsily as to kill them.
