Is there something wrong with this sentence? If so, how can I paraphrase it? Thanks!

And the yawning gap between us is threatening to break us apart ‘til Fate stepped in and became a bridge of love.

And the yawning gap between us is threatening to break us apart ‘til Fate stepped in and became a bridge of love.

The main problem is that the tense in the first half (is threatening) doesn't fit with that of the second half (stepped in/became).

So, how can I change it? Should I change /stepped/became/ to /steps/becomes/?

You could, or you could change "is threatening" to "was threatening". It depends what you want to convey.

Guys, thanks for your help!
