Hello everyone,

I am utterly confused with this sentence: 'The scenery really was breathtakingly beautiful.'

Actually, Adverbs are supposed to be using to describe the verb and as intesitfier, but what;s the function of this adverb in this sentence??

Adverbs are also used to modify adjectives – as breathtakingly does here.

Note that a better title would have been 'breathtakingly beautiful'.

Thread titles should include all or part of the word/phrase being discussed.

I apologize, but I don't understand modify the adjective??

Yes, the adverb adds to the meaning of the adjective.

An adverb is a word that changes or qualifies the meaning of a verb, adjective, other adverb, clause, sentence or any other word or phrase, except that it does not include the adjectives and determiners that directly modify nouns.
