I knew it would be a shower today but not like cats and dogs--what does this means.
2) Also is this correct-I was in shower when you called me or it should be
"I was in a shower when you called me.
3) I take shower every day.
Do say just shower or "a shower"

A shower indicates a light rain or a soft rain. To rain like cats and dogs indicates a very heavy rain, a deluge, a drenching rain or downpour.

2) Also is this correct-I was in shower when you called me or it should be
"I was in a shower when you called me.

I was in the shower when you called me.

I take a shower everyday.
I shower everyday.

In order to take a shower we must stand inside of the shower stall.
In order to take a bath we must sit inside of the bath tub.

The quick way to say these ideas would then be-
I take a shower.
I take a bath.
These are telling someone what you are doing.

I am in the shower.
I am in the tub.
These are telling someone where you are. The assumption is that if you are in the shower you must be showering, and if you are in the tub you must be bathing.
