wait for vs wait on

Of course I won't use it on the test. But I keep an open mind to things that people say informally in conversation.;-)

You're absolutely right to do that but I don't think you will hear "wait on" very often in everyday spoken English.

Maybe not in England, but it would not be uncommon among younger people in North America.
