What do you call the wind in the spring when weather is cool or warm?

Vernal wind or spring wind? Or vernal breeze or spring breeze?

Google Ngram shows an interesting trend: vernal breeze was widely used before 1820, back then, spring breeze was hardly used. But 1900 saw the soaring use of "spring breeze" to this day, while the use of vernal breeze almost died off.

Ngram: vernal breeze vs. spring breeze

The word "vernal" is barely used, though it does appear in the phrase "vernal equinox". Stick with "spring" if you want to be understood.

I am fairly sure I would only use "spring wind" if I had not already indicated the season.

Be very careful how you read Google ngram data. It looks to me like vernal breeze was never "widely used", as you suggest. Remember that it only takes one instance of use of a word for it to show up in the graph, and sometimes multiple uses of a word all come from a single publication.
