(A guy is bitter that his cancer has returned, and is annoyed with the doctor for trying too hard to show his compassion as the guy doesn't want to be pitied)

It sounded urgent, so I went to the hospital, and when I got there the doctor had a very somber expression on his face. It was dramatic to watch/look at.

Which one of 'watch' and 'look at' would you find more natural here?
 
Neither seems quite natural to me. You could use see instead of watch or look at, or you could just put a full stop after dramatic and omit the rest.
 
How about "He looked dramatic"?
