Dear friends,

When we are inside thev museums in St. Petersburg with tourists we often encounter staircases and then I usually tell my guests to be careful at the staircase in order not to fall down.

I'd like to know the difference between the phrases "Watch the steps" and "Watch your steps". Which one is better and is there any difference between the two phrases?

Thanks

You say Watch your step (singular) to warn of anything uneven or hazardous in the path ahead. The very concise BrE phrase for "watch out for the steps" is Mind the steps!
