What is the difference between glance, glimpse?
glance = a brief quick look
glimpse = a very quick look
(How i can tell where to use one or another)

1. He glared at me in anger and i was afraid.
2. He only caught a glimpse of the thief so he couldn't describe him to the police.
3. He had lost his glasses so he was squinting at everything all day.

6. She glanced at her watch and realized she would be late for work.
7. She gazed herself at the mirror admiring her beauty.

What is the difference between glance, glimpse?
glance = a brief quick look
glimpse = a very quick look

A glance is a brief look at something and, generally speaking, is a deliberate act. If I were in a meeting and wanted to get away to meet somebody, I may keep glancing at my watch. I would not want to look at the watch for prolonged periods of time as this may appear rude to the other people in the meeting.

A glimpse, on the other hand, is when you catch a brief sighting of something. The sighting may be partial, or brief, before it is interrupted. You can glimpse something that you are specifically looking for, or it may be a glimpse of something totally unexpected.

Examples:
"I was looking for her in the shop and thought I caught a glimpse of her going into the elevator"
"He glanced over his shoulder and glimpsed the attacker ducking into a doorway"
"I was minding my own business when I caught a glimpse of Brad Pitt surrounded by body guards and photographers"


Here’s how Fowler explains the difference in Modern English Usage:
"the glimpse is what is seen by the glance, and not the glance itself; you take or give a glance at something, but get a glimpse of it."
