"We can build a Channel by making walls on both sides of a water stream."

Please check.

Could you please tell me what is the one word for "on both sodes of". Is it "alongwith" or "side by side" or "astride" or "across". Actually I am confused with all these words. Could you please give me meanings?

It means that they will build a wall on the left side and the right side of the water stream. I can't think of a single word which would give the same meaning.

Is channel a proper noun?

What about "canal", which is a man-made waterway? A channel is any passage for water to flow through, which is not necessarily man-made.

"We can build a channel by flanking a water stream with walls."
