I feel it strange to read the construction 'we can know from the passage that', suspecting it should be 'we can learn from the passage that'. But I've come across it hundreds of times in China's classroom English papers. Is it good English?

No. 'We can gather', 'We can learn', 'We can extrapolate'........take your pick, but 'We can know' is not acceptable.
