[Grammar] weakens / get

Hi,

Could you tell me if these sentences are correct. (or which one / no one)

- It obviously weakens to get an acceptance from the University.

- It obviously weakens getting an acceptance from the University.

Neither one makes sense as a standalone sentence. What is the context?
 
There is a problematic situation and it makes studying at a university less probable. I do not know Whether my first sentences are grammatically correct or not. Could you give me some clues about how I make them correct.

Do you mean the situation reduces the chance of being admitted into a university?
 
Yes, this is what I meant.
 
What is "it" and "problematic situation"?
"Weakens to get/getting" is wrong. Something spoils/reduces/blows one's chance of getting something.
 
It obviously reduces one's chance of gaining admission to the university.
