Dear Forum Users,

What is the most typical term used for the person who presents the weather news:

weatherman/weather prophet/weather spy/?

This time I am looking for terms in British English.

Thank you very much.

Csika

I've heard "weather forecaster" on the BBC, and "weatherperson" on Sky News.
In any case, "prophet" or "spy" are not used.

In the States, it's weatherman, weatherperson, or more often, meteorologist.

Thank you very much.

Csika

I have to admit that "weather prophet" made me laugh out loud

Weather forecaster is common in BrE. Weatherman and weathergirl were used, but you don't hear the latter used nowadays, and weatherperson hasn't replaced it.

Ahh yes, I've heard weathergirl too (in AmE), but not so much anymore.

I think many years ago, they had a pretty girl read the weather report prepared by others. These days, most television stations have their own meteorologist. In the commercials, you'll hear "coming up next, New 13 meteorlogist Sam Smith has the weekend weather forecast."

I think most TV stations call them "meteorologists" but most people still call them "weathermen."
