Which are correct:

1) They went to the lake fishing.

2) They went to the lake, fishing.
Meaning: They went to the lake to fish.

3) They went to the ABC nightclub dancing.

4) They went to the ABC nightclub, dancing.
Meaning: They went to the nightclub to dance.

Gratefully,
Navi.

I find them all unnatural.

They went fishing/dancing at the lake/nightclub.

They sound as though the last word is telling us the manner in which they went to the lake or the nightclub.

This is especially true of #4 which reads as though they were dancing their way to the club.
