What does CDs mean in this context?

...The assistant puts your card in a machine and asks you to enter your PIN. You can also pay by debit card or cheque. At the end, he gives you your CDs and a receipt.

It could mean compact discs.
 
I think that's the most likely meaning. Tulipflower, did the book not give an indication of where this scene was supposed to be taking place?

The book was first published in 2008, so I agree.
 
The only other common use of 'CD' that I'm aware of is 'certificate of deposit', which is a type of short term savings account. That of course wouldn't make any sense in this context.
