What does 'O' mean in ' O king'?

In the story of 'The Mouse and the Lion', the mouse says 'O King'. What does 'O' mean?
 
It's an old-fashioned way of writing Oh.
 
PS - As you know, it helps a lot if you tell us where you found it.
 
Some languages have a vocative case (used when addressing people by name): it's the English equivalent. But it's pretty old fashioned and poetic sounding.
 
We have this case in Persian.
