A puzzling sentence reads "Tender crops that the hopeful farmers had put out earlier in the month were killed by the unseasonable frost". I can't decide which meaning to choose about "put out".
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! Its makes perfect sense from our general knowledge, but I am wondering why I did not find it in the dictionaries.
I use the longman online dictionary, which item should correspond to this meaning?
Thanks a million!
