What is the difference between "audit" and "auditing"?

"Audit" is either the verb "to audit" or a noun. "Auditing" is the present participle of the verb. "John is carrying out an audit of the accounts this week"/"John is auditing the accounts this week".
 
I know that audit can be used as a verb as well as a noun. I want to know which one I should use when choosing a noun. They can be both used as noun right?

No, "auditing" is not a noun.
